EMDR therapy, tailored to you, with results you can feel—fast
Proven to help you process trauma, ease stress, and build resilience faster than traditional approaches.

What is EMDR?
The mind can often heal itself naturally, in the same way as the body does. Much of this natural coping mechanism occurs during sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.
Francine Shapiro developed Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 1987, utilising this natural process in order to successfully treat Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Since then, EMDR has been used to effectively treat a wide range of mental health problems.
How Group EMDR Therapy works
Identify & Target
We begin by working with you to identify the specific memories, emotions, or patterns that are holding you back. This step helps to focus the therapy on what matters most to you. We may draw upon creative techniques to support you in identifying your target.
Process with Bilateral Stimulation
Through guided bilateral stimulation, we help you safely revisit and reprocess distressing experiences. This reduces their emotional intensity and allows for healthier perspectives to emerge.
Rewire & Rebuild
EMDR supports your brain in “unsticking” from trauma, rewiring how you perceive and respond to past experiences. This helps transform negative thought patterns into empowering beliefs.
Move Forward with Clarity
Once the processing phase is complete, we focus on equipping you with tools to maintain balance and build resilience. You’ll leave with practical strategies to navigate life with greater ease and confidence.
Characteristics of group EMDR therapy
Transformative healing in a supportive group setting
Simultaneous BLS
Bilateral stimulation is done simultaneously by all participants using tapping or other simple methods.
Self-guided within structure
People work on their own memories with expert therapeutic facilitation.
Adapted Protocols
Adapted protocols (like G-TEP or IGTP) are used to manage group dynamics and ensure safety.
Privacy is protected
Memory details do not have to be shared out loud.
EMDR therapy session timeline
Each stage of the EMDR therapy session is carefully structured to help you feel grounded, supported, and ready for transformation. Explore the timeline of the session below to understand what to expect.
Introduction & Psychoeducation
The therapist explains what EMDR is, how it works, and what the group can expect. The focus is usually on understanding trauma, how the brain processes it, and how EMDR helps. Grounding, stabilization, and resource-building exercises (like Safe/Calm Place imagery) are often introduced.
Preparation & Stabilisation
Participants may learn self-soothing techniques or bilateral stimulation (BLS) methods that can be used in the group (e.g., tapping shoulders or knees). In G-TEP, participants may work with a worksheet or visual form to externalize and contain their memories. Emphasis is placed on emotional regulation and group safety.
Target Identification
Each participant identifies a distressing memory silently or with minimal verbal disclosure (privacy is respected). Participants are not expected to share stories out loud unless they would like to.
Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) Processing
Group members use self-administered BLS (e.g., "butterfly hug" – tapping on their shoulders) while focusing on their individual memory targets. A trained therapist guides the group through phases of EMDR, often using scripts adapted for group settings. Group members track their emotional responses (e.g., using Subjective Units of Distress – SUD scores).
Closure & Stabilisation
The therapist helps the group members return to a calm state. Techniques like grounding exercises, breathing, or visualization are used. Members may be invited to share general feelings (not trauma content) if they wish.
